Our Techniques

We use a number of highly-effective adjusting  approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our judgment and years of experience.

The primary adjusting techniques we use include:

Active Release Therapy

Active Release Therapy (A.R.T.) is a technique pioneered by Olympic staff chiropractor Michael Leahy, D.C. It’s based on the idea that joint problems are often the result of regions of fibrous adhesions within the muscles that move the affected joints. Using a combination of highly directional deep tissue movements, both with the patient passive and alternately actively moving the affected joint, adhesions are reduced. This in turn helps the muscle return to its original length and strength, promoting better joint movement.

A.R.T. is very useful for the relief of nerve entrapments such as carpal tunnel syndrome and sciatica. By following the course of a nerve as it leaves the spinal column to its furthest extent, A.R.T. helps remove adhesions which may exist between that nerve and the muscles which regularly contract against it.

Spinal Traction

Many patients present with conditions related to degeneration of their spinal column. Age, trauma and posture can damage the spinal joints and discs,. leading to compression or pinched nerves. Traction, or spinal decompression, helps remove the pressure on these nerves.

We have many forms of traction available at our office, for both the neck and lower back. This allows us to find the best match when traction is the best treatment choice.

Dr. Ken Asks some important questions of interest to Santa Cruz residents - Chiropractor Santa Cruz Dr. Ken Asks...

Where do most Santa Cruz residents get their first vertebral subluxation?
Being born in a hospital is a common source of vertebral subluxation. Trauma from forceps delivery has been replaced with drugs, vacuum extraction, Cesarean section and births that are "scheduled" to fit the workweek routines of Ob-Gyns. That's why we recommend a chiropractic checkup for every Santa Cruz newborn.
Why do so many drugs require a prescription?
Because they can be dangerous? I chose a chiropractic career specifically because it avoids artificial means of pain relief. Our Santa Cruz chiropractic practice attracts health-conscious families that prefer a safe and natural solution. Ready to get started? Call our office today.
